The KENNAMETAL 1112988 is a carbide threading insert designed for precision thread-cutting operations in both internal and external applications. Built to the NAS3R12 geometry and manufactured in the KC730 grade, this insert features a Titanium Nitride (TiN) finish applied via a PVD coating process. It belongs to the Top Notch series and is configured for right-hand cutting. The 29-degree included angle and 12 TPI pitch make it purpose-built for Stub Acme thread profiles. With a tip-to-top height of 0.1492 inches and a corner radius of 0.033 inches, it delivers consistent thread geometry across production and repair runs.
This insert is suited for threading operations on lathes and CNC turning centers where Stub Acme thread forms are required. Stub Acme threads appear in power transmission components, lead screws, and linear actuators in both industrial and maintenance environments. The right-hand configuration covers the most common thread direction in these applications. Machinists and toolroom operators working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, or maintenance shops will find this insert a direct fit for the Top Notch toolholding system. It handles internal and external thread profiles, reducing the need for separate tooling in mixed-threading setups.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series toolholders that accept NAS-style threading inserts. Suitable for C2, C3, and C4 material grade classifications per the ANSI carbide grade system.
Installation of threading inserts should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before insert exchange. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without cracking the carbide. Verify insert seating and alignment before initiating a threading pass. Inspect the cutting tip and corner radius for wear or chipping at regular intervals during production use.
