The KENNAMETAL 1097673 is an external, right-hand indexable threading toolholder designed for precision thread-turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built in the Top Notch series, it accepts NTU 4R inserts held by a clamp-style insert holding method, providing a secure and repeatable cutting position. The square shank measures 0.75 x 0.75 inches with an overall length of 5 inches and a head length of 1.25 inches. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.24 inches, this holder is suited for threading tasks that demand dimensional consistency and tight tolerances. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, it is a direct toolroom replacement or production-line component.
This toolholder is intended for external threading applications in production and job-shop environments. The right-hand configuration positions the cutting insert for standard right-hand thread generation on workpieces mounted in a lathe chuck or between centers. The NSU toolholder style aligns with Top Notch system tooling setups. It does not include coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for applications where flood or mist coolant is supplied externally. The 0.75-inch square shank fits tool blocks and turrets sized for 3/4-inch tooling stations. This is a single-use, non-multi-tool holder intended for dedicated threading operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading toolholder for lathes and turning centers equipped with 3/4-inch square shank tool stations and compatible with the Top Notch NTU 4R insert system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret or tool block. Ensure the tool block bore and clamping screws are clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify insert seating and clamp torque per your facility's tooling standards before initiating a cutting cycle.
