The KENNAMETAL 1097597 is a right-hand indexable threading toolholder from the Top Notch series, designed for both internal and external threading and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The toolholder features a 1.5 x 1.5 inch square shank and an overall length of 7 inches, making it well-suited for rigid setups in medium to large turning applications. It accepts N.4R inserts secured by a clamp-style holding method, ensuring repeatable edge positioning and secure insert retention under interrupted or continuous threading cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this holder in production and job-shop environments where thread-form accuracy and insert changeover speed are critical.
This toolholder is built for threading and grooving applications in both internal and external configurations from a single holder body. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.294 inches and a back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension of 2.0 inches, it is applicable to a range of thread pitches and groove profiles on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The Top Notch series designation indicates compatibility with the Kennametal Top Notch insert system. It is a multi-use tool, reducing the need for separate holders for grooving and threading operations on the same lathe turret.
Designed for use with N.4R indexable inserts in the Kennametal Top Notch series (cross-reference MSC/Manufacturer Number NSR/L244E). Compatible with lathes and turning centers that accept a 1.5 x 1.5 inch square-shank toolholder in Toolholder Style NS configuration.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or indexing inserts. Seat the shank fully in the turret pocket and torque the clamp fasteners according to the machine tool manufacturer specifications before cutting. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before initiating any threading cycle.
