The KENNAMETAL 1097038 is a right-hand indexable turning toolholder in the CTGP style, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built around a 1 inch by 1 inch steel shank with an overall length of 5 inches, this holder accepts trigon-style inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and secures them using a top-clamp holding method. The positive rake geometry at 0 degrees rake angle promotes clean chip formation and reduced cutting forces. It is part of KENNAMETAL's Kendex series and is intended for installation by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This toolholder is suited for external turning applications in both production and job-shop settings. The CTGPR163C configuration specifies a right-hand cutting orientation, making it appropriate for standard left-to-right facing and turning passes. Compatible inserts follow the TP..32 and TP..322 designations. The steel shank construction provides rigidity under interrupted cuts and continuous turning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. No coolant-through capability is present on this holder, so external coolant delivery should be used when flood or mist cooling is required.
Compatible with TP..32 and TP..322 series trigon-style turning inserts with a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, as specified by the CTGPR163C insert compatibility designation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or changing the toolholder. Ensure the shank seating surfaces and tool block pocket are clean and free of chips before torquing the clamping screws. Use insert and toolholder manufacturers torque guidelines for clamp screws when seating the insert, and verify tool centerline height before resuming cuts.
