The KENNAMETAL 1096458 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built to the A-MDUN toolholder style in the Kenloc series, it accepts DN-style inserts held by screw or clamp and cuts with a negative rake angle of 5 degrees. The shank diameter is 1-1/4 inches (31.75 mm) with an overall length of 14 inches (355.60 mm). The minimum bore diameter is 1.705 inches (43.31 mm), making it suited for moderate to large bore applications. Coolant-through capability is included, with a 1/4-18 NPT coolant hole thread for directed cutting fluid delivery. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This boring bar is configured for left-hand cut with a -3 degree lead angle and a negative rake geometry, which is standard for harder workpiece materials and interrupted cuts. The Kenloc clamping system provides secure insert seating under high cutting forces. The back-of-bar to cutting edge measurement is 1 inch (25.40 mm) and the center-to-cutting-edge dimension is 1.000 inch. The coolant-through design supports chip evacuation in deep-bore applications. Typical applications include precision bore finishing and roughing in steel, cast iron, and similar materials on horizontal or vertical turning centers.
Designed for use with DN-style indexable inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness, as specified for the Kenloc toolholder system. Compatible with standard boring bar holders accepting a 1-1/4-inch round shank.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before mounting or adjusting the boring bar. Verify that the insert is properly seated and the clamping screw or clamp is torqued according to the insert manufacturer guidelines before cutting. Connect the coolant-through port to the machine tool coolant supply using fittings compatible with the 1/4-18 NPT thread.
