The KENNAMETAL 1096385 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Part of the Kenloc series, it accepts TN.. style inserts secured by screw or clamp holding, providing a rigid, repeatable setup for finish and semi-finish boring passes. The shank diameter is 1 inch with an overall length of 12 inches, and the minimum bore diameter is 1.22 inches. A built-in coolant-through port with a 1/4-18 NPT thread allows direct coolant delivery to the cutting zone, improving chip evacuation and extending insert life in deep bore applications. The negative rake geometry at 5 degrees suits carbide insert grades running ferrous and harder workpiece materials.
This boring bar is suited for job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machine shops handling steel, cast iron, and similar materials. Its right-hand cut orientation makes it compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional turning centers. The 1-inch cylindrical shank fits standard boring bar holders and quick-change toolpost blocks common in industrial turning setups. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers specify this bar for applications requiring controlled surface finish in bores starting at 1.22 inches in diameter.
Designed as a Kenloc series OEM-style boring bar accepting TN.. style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness. No additional specific machine model compatibility was provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the boring bar from the toolholder. Verify shank clamp torque against your toolholder manufacturer specifications before engaging the workpiece. Connect the coolant line to the 1/4-18 NPT port using appropriate fittings rated for your system pressure before operating with coolant-through enabled.
