The KENNAMETAL 1096267 is a right-hand MDQN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative-rake metal cutting operations on the lathe. Built on the Kenloc clamping system, it uses a clamp-and-screw insert holding method to secure DN..43. series inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. The steel shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 6 inches, giving the holder a rigid, low-deflection profile suited to interrupted cuts and heavier material removal passes. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators use this holder in turning centers and engine lathes where consistent insert seating and repeatability are required.
This toolholder is intended for external turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. The 27.5-degree lead angle promotes chip flow and reduces radial cutting forces, making it practical for shoulder turning and general OD work on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The right-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for standard left-to-right feed direction on a conventional lathe setup. No coolant-through feature is present, so external flood or mist coolant delivery should be used when thermal management is needed.
Designed to accept DN..43. series indexable inserts with a 0.5-inch (1/2 inch) inscribed circle, as indicated by the complete insert compatibility designation DN.. 432. Verify insert geometry and chipbreaker selection against workpiece material and cutting parameters before ordering inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the toolholder firmly in the turret or tool block so the shank is fully engaged and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before changing inserts or repositioning the holder. Do not exceed the insert manufacturer's recommended cutting data for feed, speed, and depth of cut.
