The KENNAMETAL 1096255 is a left-hand indexable turning toolholder in the Kenloc series, designed for use with DN-style negative-rake inserts on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It uses a clamp screw holding method to secure the insert firmly during external turning operations. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch high, with an overall length of 6 inches. Compatible inserts seat on a 3/8-inch (0.3750-inch) inscribed circle. This toolholder is manufactured from steel and is intended for installation and use by machinists and CNC turning professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 1096255 is suited for external turning applications where a left-hand MDJN-style holder is required. The MDJN toolholder style positions the insert at a negative rake angle, making it appropriate for heavier interrupted cuts and general-purpose turning on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The Kenloc clamping system provides rigid insert retention, which is important in applications with interrupted cuts or higher feed rates. This holder fits standard square-shank toolpost setups commonly found on manual and CNC turning equipment.
Designed for use with DN.. 332 series inserts (complete insert compatibility: DN.. 332) with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Consult the Kennametal Kenloc series insert selection guide to confirm insert grade and geometry compatibility for specific workpiece materials and cutting conditions.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe, locked-out state before changing the toolholder or insert. Secure the shank in the toolpost to the appropriate clamping torque specified by the toolpost manufacturer. Follow the insert manufacturer's guidelines for insert seating, clamping screw torque, and indexing intervals to avoid premature insert failure or toolholder damage.
