The KENNAMETAL 1094681 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It features a right-hand cut orientation with a neutral rake angle of 0 degrees and a -5 degree lead angle, providing stable, predictable cutting geometry. The 1/2-inch shank diameter pairs with an 8-inch overall length to deliver reach into bores with a minimum bore diameter of 0.730 inches (18.54 mm). Insert retention is handled by a screw-clamp holding method for positive seating under load. Coolant-through capability is supported via a 1/16-27 NPT coolant hole thread, making this bar suitable for deep-bore applications where chip evacuation and tool-tip cooling are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This boring bar is intended for precision internal boring in both production and job-shop environments. The A-SDXP toolholder style accepts DP-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch thickness, giving tooling engineers a well-supported insert family to choose from. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing of through-bores and blind bores in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The coolant-through design supports elevated cutting speeds in materials that generate significant heat at the cutting edge.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling solution for A-SDXP toolholder style boring applications using DP-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch insert thickness.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Secure the shank fully within the tool turret or boring bar holder to the required clamping depth before operation, and confirm runout with an indicator before cutting. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts or repositioning the bar. Verify coolant line connections to the 1/16-27 NPT port are properly sealed and pressurized to the machine specification before engaging coolant-through flow.
