The KENNAMETAL 1094618 is a left-hand indexable turning toolholder in the SVJBL style, designed for screw-clamp insert retention on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It accepts VB-style inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, secured by a screw-on clamping method that delivers consistent insert positioning and repeatable depth of cut. The shank measures 0.5 x 0.5 inches with an overall length of 6 inches, fitting standard square-shank toolpost and turret pockets common in production turning environments. Constructed from steel with a neutral rake angle of 0 degrees, this toolholder suits a wide range of finishing and light roughing applications where controlled chip flow is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This toolholder is intended for external turning operations on lathes equipped with square-shank tool stations accepting 0.5-inch shank tooling. The left-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for specific approach directions, making it suitable for facing, turning toward the tailstock on reverse-rotation setups, or specialized profiling passes. The SVJBL style with screw clamping is commonly used in high-repeatability production environments where quick insert changes without tool removal from the turret are a priority. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant supply or flood cooling is required when running coolant-assisted cuts.
Compatible with VB.. 221 series inserts. Designed as an OEM-style screw-clamp turning toolholder for lathes and turning centers accepting 0.5 x 0.5 inch square-shank tooling.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the toolholder or insert. Ensure the turret pocket or toolpost bore is clean and free of chips before inserting the shank to maintain proper seating and tool height. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the machine tool manufacturer when tightening the insert clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can damage the screw thread or insert seat.
