The JOHNSON LEVEL TOOL 40-6650 is a red-beam, self-leveling cross-line laser designed for layout and alignment tasks in commercial and residential construction. It projects one horizontal line, one vertical line, or a full cross-line pattern, selectable separately or simultaneously. The unit features a visual out-of-level indicator so the operator knows immediately when the laser is outside its self-leveling range. Laser wavelength is 635nm plus or minus 10nm, and the unit carries a Class IIIa laser classification. Working temperature range spans 14 degrees F to 113 degrees F, making it suitable for most interior and outdoor job-site conditions.
This laser is built for professional trades that require accurate line projection across longer distances. The 150-foot working range supports large open-floor layouts, wall framing alignment, drop-ceiling grids, and door or window plumb checks. The included multi-functional elevating magnetic bracket uses rare earth magnets to mount on walls, steel studs, or metallic surfaces, and accepts a standard tripod via 5/8 inch-11 or 1/4 inch-20 center screw threads. While mounted on the bracket, the laser can be raised or lowered 2.5 inches and rotated a full 360 degrees for precise positioning without relocating the base.
Designed for use as a freestanding or bracket-mounted cross-line laser on standard tripods and magnetic mounting surfaces. Compatible with tripods equipped with 5/8 inch-11 or 1/4 inch-20 threaded heads.
Setup and operation of this laser level does not require a licensed trade, but job-site laser safety protocols apply given the Class IIIa classification — avoid directing the beam toward eyes and post appropriate laser-use warnings in occupied work areas. Mount the unit on a stable tripod or the included magnetic bracket on a clean, flat metallic surface before powering on. Allow the self-leveling mechanism to settle before taking reference marks. Power off and remove batteries when storing or transporting the unit.
