The JOHNSON CONTROLS te-6100-2 is a duct-mounted temperature sensing element featuring an 8-foot averaging element designed to measure mixed or stratified airstreams across a duct cross-section. Rather than reading temperature at a single point, the averaging element spans the duct to produce a mean temperature signal, giving building automation and HVAC control systems a more accurate representation of actual air conditions. It is installed by licensed HVAC controls technicians in air handling units, mixed-air plenums, and supply or return ductwork where uniform temperature readings are critical to system performance.
This sensing element is suited for commercial and light-industrial HVAC applications where duct stratification or airstream mixing makes single-point sensing unreliable. Typical installations include large air handling units, economizer control sections, and multizone systems where accurate averaged temperature feedback drives downstream control decisions. The 8-foot element length accommodates wider duct runs compared to the shorter single-point TE-6100-1 configuration.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or upgrade sensing element for commercial duct temperature sensing applications in building automation and HVAC control systems.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed HVAC controls or building automation technician. De-energize the control circuit and lock out the air handling unit before mounting or removing the sensing element. The element should be routed across the duct in a serpentine pattern to maximize coverage of the airstream cross-section. Follow applicable local mechanical codes and the control system manufacturer wiring guidelines during termination.
