The JERGENS 49602 is a Ball Lock modular fixturing shank designed for use in precision workholding and fixture plate systems. Machined from steel with a black finish, this shank provides a maximum holding force of 3,000 pounds, making it well suited for demanding machining and fixturing applications. The 20 mm shank diameter seats securely into compatible Ball Lock receiver bushings, enabling fast, repeatable pallet and fixture changeovers without the need for re-indicating. The 1.78-inch shank length and 1.75-inch head diameter are sized for standard modular fixturing plate assemblies. Machinists and tooling setup technicians install this component as part of a quick-change workholding system on milling machines and machining centers.
This shank is intended for use in modular fixturing systems where repeatable locating and fast changeover between setups are required. It is commonly installed in job shops, production machining environments, and toolroom applications where downtime between setups must be minimized. The Ball Lock design allows the shank to be installed and released from a fixture plate without tools, reducing setup time significantly. A 1/8-inch key size provides positive rotational location of the shank within the receiver.
Designed for use with Ball Lock modular fixturing systems. Plate thickness compatibility is rated at 1.0 inch. Confirm receiver bushing bore size and plate thickness specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by tooling technicians or machinists familiar with modular workholding systems. Ensure the machine spindle and any moving components are fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before installing or removing the shank. Verify that the receiver bushing is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the shank to ensure full locking engagement. Follow the fixture system manufacturer guidelines for inspection of ball lock components at regular service intervals.
