The JERGENS 31635 is a pull out dowel pin designed for precise alignment and locating applications in tooling, fixtures, and machine assemblies. Machined from alloy steel with a threaded end, this pin allows for controlled extraction using a standard puller or threaded rod - eliminating the need to drive the pin out from the opposite side. It measures 1/2 inch in diameter and 3 inches in overall length, with a diameter tolerance of -0.0001 to 0.0001 inches, meeting the tight dimensional standards required for repeatable, accurate part location. Manufactured to ASME B18.8.2, it is appropriate for precision tooling and production fixturing environments.
This pin is suited for use in machine shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing facilities where alignment dowels must be removed and reinstalled without damaging the workpiece or the bore. The threaded end allows for easy extraction in blind-hole applications where a standard press-fit pin would otherwise require a knockout from the back. Machinists, tool and die makers, and fixture builders will encounter this style of pin in jig plates, mold bases, die sets, and precision assembly fixtures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation dowel pin for precision fixturing, jig plates, die sets, and machine assemblies requiring a 1/2 inch diameter reamed bore per ASME B18.8.2.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or tool and die makers using a reamed bore sized to accept a 1/2 inch dowel pin. The mating bore should be reamed to the appropriate H7 or closer tolerance to achieve proper fit with the pin diameter tolerance specified. When removing the pin, thread a puller or appropriately sized rod into the threaded end and extract axially - do not hammer or pry laterally, as this can damage the bore or deform the pin. Ensure the bore and pin shank are clean and lightly lubricated before installation to prevent galling.
