The JERGENS 31622 is a pull out dowel pin designed for precision alignment and locating applications in tooling, fixtures, and machined assemblies. Manufactured from alloy steel with a threaded end for extraction, this pin measures 3/8 inch in diameter and 2.5 inches in overall length. The diameter tolerance is held to -0.0001 to 0.0001 inches, making it suitable for tight-tolerance fit applications where positional accuracy is critical. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians install this type of pin when a standard press-fit dowel would be difficult to remove without a dedicated extraction point.
Pull out dowel pins are used across manufacturing, metalworking, and industrial maintenance environments. The threaded end allows the installer to thread in a slide hammer or extraction tool to drive or pull the pin free from a blind hole without damaging the bore or surrounding workpiece. This makes the 31622 particularly appropriate for fixtures, jigs, and die sets that require periodic disassembly or component swaps.
Designed as a standard ASME B18.8.2 pull out dowel pin suitable for use in tooling plates, fixture bodies, jigs, and die sets requiring a 3/8 inch locating hole with extraction access.
Pull out dowel pins are typically installed and serviced by toolmakers or maintenance machinists. Ensure the receiving bore is reamed to the appropriate tolerance to achieve the intended fit class before pressing the pin into place. Always de-energize and lock out any machine or press before servicing fixtures that contain dowel pins. Use a proper extraction tool threaded into the pin end to remove the pin cleanly without galling the bore wall.
