The JACOBS 9758 is a rubber tap collet designed for use in tapping chucks and tap holders during threading operations. Measuring 0.256 inches (6.50 mm) in diameter, this collet grips taps securely to maintain alignment and reduce slippage during both hand and machine tapping. The rubber construction provides a controlled degree of flexibility, which helps protect tap shanks and absorb minor misalignment. With a minimum collet capacity of 0.177 inches (4.5 mm), it accommodates a specific range of tap shank diameters. It is installed and used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with drill presses, CNC machining centers, or manual tapping equipment.
This collet is suited for general-purpose tapping applications in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments. It is intended for use in tapping chucks that accept rubber-style collets. The 9758 does not support through-coolant delivery and is not designed for tension-tap style holders. Typical applications include threading ferrous and non-ferrous materials in both production and job-shop settings where accurate tap alignment is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement rubber tap collet for tapping chucks and tap holders that accept 0.256-inch rubber collets.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the tapping chuck or holder is fully de-energized and the spindle is locked before replacing a collet. Seat the collet fully and evenly into the chuck bore before securing. Inspect the collet for wear, cracking, or deformation before each use, as a damaged rubber collet can cause tap breakage or poor thread quality.
