The JACOBS 7317N is a taper drill chuck arbor designed to connect a Jacobs Taper 5 (JT5) drill chuck to a machine spindle with a No. 3 Morse Taper (3MT) shank. The arbor serves as the mechanical interface between the chuck body and the spindle, transmitting torque and maintaining concentricity during drilling operations. Machined to standard taper tolerances, this arbor suits drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a 3MT spindle bore. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics typically install this type of arbor during chuck replacement or machine setup.
This arbor is applicable to bench and floor-standing drill presses, metal lathes, and similar machine tools that accept a 3MT spindle. It accepts any chuck with a JT5 taper mount, making it a direct-fit solution when rebuilding or upgrading a drilling setup. The JT5 mount is a common chuck-mounting standard found on medium-to-large capacity drill chucks used in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed as a direct-fit arbor for drill chucks with a JT5 Jacobs Taper mount, for use in machine tool spindles bored to accept a No. 3 Morse Taper shank.
Machinists and maintenance technicians install this arbor type. Always power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing a chuck arbor. The Morse Taper shank is driven into the spindle bore by hand pressure or a soft mallet and is removed with a drift key through the spindle slot - never use impact tools on the taper surfaces, as this can damage the seating geometry. Verify the spindle bore is clean and free of chips or burrs before installation to ensure full taper contact.
