The JACOBS 30488DN is a drill chuck drift designed to remove drill chucks and arbors seated in 6MT (No. 6 Morse Taper) spindles and tailstocks. The drift is inserted into the knockout slot of the machine spindle and driven with a mallet to break the taper seat and eject the chuck or arbor without damaging the spindle bore. This tool is standard equipment for machinists and tool-room technicians working with large-format lathes, mill-drills, and boring machines that use 6MT tooling. At 1 pound, the drift is sized for solid, controlled strikes in heavy-duty taper removal work.
The 30488DN is intended for use with No. 6 Morse Taper spindles, which are common on large-capacity lathes, radial arm drills, and similar heavy machine tools. The drift fits the knockout slot geometry of 6MT-equipped machines, making it the correct tool when removing chucks, arbors, or sleeves from that specific taper size. Machinists, toolroom mechanics, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users. It is not intended for smaller Morse Taper sizes.
Designed for use with No. 6 Morse Taper (6MT) machine spindles. Fits the knockout slot of 6MT-equipped lathes, radial drills, and similar machine tools that accept 6MT chucks and arbors.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom mechanics. Before removing any chuck or arbor, disengage and lock out the machine per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Insert the drift into the spindle knockout slot and strike with a soft-face or ball-peen mallet using controlled force. Do not use the drift on taper sizes other than 6MT, as an incorrect fit can damage the spindle slot or eject tooling unsafely.
