The JACOBS 30485N is a drill chuck drift designed to remove Morse taper tooling from drill press spindles and lathe tailstocks. The drift is inserted into the spindle slot and driven with a mallet to break the taper seat and release the chuck or arbor. This tool is compatible with both 1MT and 2MT Morse taper shanks, making it a practical single-tool solution for shops running machines with either taper size. At 1 pound, it is a lightweight, easy-to-handle hand tool suited for routine tooling changes. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals keep this drift on hand for fast chuck removal without damaging the spindle bore.
This drift is used in machine shop and maintenance environments where Morse taper chucks, arbors, or adapters must be removed from drill presses, lathes, milling machines, or similar equipment. It is appropriate for both light production and maintenance applications. Its dual compatibility with 1MT and 2MT tapers reduces the need to stock separate drifts for machines with different spindle sizes, which is useful in shops running mixed equipment.
Designed for use with 1MT Taper and 2MT Taper Morse taper tooling and spindles.
Drift removal is performed by a machinist or maintenance technician. Power down and lock out the machine before any tooling change. Insert the drift into the spindle knockout slot and strike with a dead-blow or soft-face mallet to release the taper. Avoid using a hardened steel hammer directly on the drift, as this can damage the drift or the spindle slot.
