The ISCAR 6498637 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIPM235A46 insert style designation and is coated with TiCN via a PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and edge integrity at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features a 0.093 inch cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 0.039 inches, and an overall length of 0.602 inches. A positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces and helps manage chip flow. This is a double-ended insert, providing two usable cutting edges per piece and extending tool life between changeovers. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is engineered for grooving, parting, and profiling operations where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are critical. Its primary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium, making it well suited for aerospace, medical device, and high-performance industrial component machining. The IC328 grade combined with PVD TiCN coating is optimized for these demanding materials where heat generation and built-up edge are common challenges. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard radial grooving toolholders in the Cut-Grip system. Maximum depth of cut range is 0 to 0.075 inches.
Designed for use in Cut-Grip series grooving toolholders that accept GIPM-style inserts with size code 235A46. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping system compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down the machine and follow lockout/tagout procedures before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp engages the insert correctly before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert grade and geometry.
