The ISCAR 6496822 is a double-ended grooving insert designed for precision ID and OD grooving operations on non-ferrous metals. Part of the Cut-Grip series, this insert features a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) uncoated cutting edge with a 3.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm. The neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of grooving setups, and the positive rake angle of 7 degrees helps reduce cutting forces on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. The PA chip breaker geometry and 0.20 mm corner radius support controlled chip flow and surface finish consistency. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists typically specify this insert for high-volume non-ferrous grooving applications.
This insert is intended for use on CNC lathes and turning centers performing internal and external grooving on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum alloys and copper-based materials. The GIPA insert style fits Cut-Grip series toolholders designed for that insert form. The double-end configuration extends insert life by providing two usable cutting edges per insert. Typical applications include groove turning, parting prep, and profile grooving where tight dimensional tolerances and smooth surface finishes are required on soft, abrasive, or high-silicon non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIPA insert style, size code 300020D. Intended for non-ferrous metal grooving applications on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before insert exchange. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque the clamp fastener according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications, which should be referenced from the toolholder documentation rather than estimated. Verify insert seating and runout before resuming cutting operations.
