The ISCAR 6450053 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the TGMF635080F geometry, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC428 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Al2O3 and TiC coating that provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cuts. The insert features a 6.35 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 18.6 mm, and a double-ended configuration that delivers two usable cutting edges per insert. It is clamped into compatible Top Grip toolholders and is suited for production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and edge integrity are required.
This insert is intended for grooving and cut-off applications on cast iron, steel, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, K, and H. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across standard right-hand and left-hand grooving setups depending on the holder configuration. The F-style chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation at moderate feeds and depths. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production shops, job shops, and contract manufacturing environments will find this insert well-suited to repetitive groove profiles in ferrous and hard workpiece materials.
Designed for use with ISCAR Top Grip series clamping toolholders that accept the TGMF insert style and 635080 insert size. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), K (cast iron), and H (hard materials) per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and all spindle motion stopped. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and engage the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure before any cutting operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before indexing to the second cutting edge. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable machine guarding requirements during insert changes.
