The ISCAR 6450003 is a cermet uncoated grooving insert carrying the manufacturer grade IC20N and the TGMF404F geometry designation. It is designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a neutral hand orientation and a double-end configuration, allowing both ends to be used before replacement. With a 4.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 14.60 mm, it handles medium-depth grooving passes on a variety of turned components. Cermet grade IC20N offers good wear resistance and edge retention at moderate cutting speeds, making it well suited for finish and semi-finish grooving applications.
This insert is intended for use on ferrous workpiece materials, specifically stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. It seats into compatible Top Grip toolholders that accept the TGMF 404 insert size, making it a direct replacement consumable for shops already running the Top Grip system. Typical applications include groove-for-seal work, retaining ring grooves, and undercut profiles on shaft-type components in precision machining environments. The F chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in these materials.
Designed for use with Top Grip series toolholders accepting the TGMF 404 insert size. Compatible primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO group M) and carbon or alloy steel (ISO group P). Confirm toolholder clamp compatibility before ordering.
Grooving insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and locked out per facility safety procedures. Seat the insert fully into the clamp pocket and verify the clamp screw is torqued according to the toolholder manufacturer specification before initiating a cut. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before each insert change to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure. Do not exceed the insert maximum depth of cut in a single pass.
