The ISCAR 6405381 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Notch-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to grade IC808 with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, this insert delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. It features a 0.062 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.094 inch, making it well suited for narrow groove profiles requiring consistent repeatability. The double-ended design extends usable tool life per insert. Machining professionals and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop turning environments are the primary users.
This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, nonferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The Notch-Grip series uses a clamp-type insert holding method, and the insert is configured for right-hand operation. It carries a positive rake angle of 3 degrees and a lead angle of 3 degrees, which reduces cutting forces and supports clean chip formation in a broad range of grooving applications on both small and medium-diameter workpieces.
Designed for use in Notch-Grip series clamp-style toolholders accepting insert size code 3062 with insert seat size 3. Compatible with toolholder designation MSC/Manufacturer Number ING 3062R/L as noted in product specifications. Suitable for ISO 13399-compliant tooling systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per shop safety procedures. Seat the insert fully into the Notch-Grip clamp pocket and verify that the clamping mechanism engages evenly before starting a cut. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can affect insert seating and dimensional accuracy. Always confirm insert orientation matches the required hand of cut before tightening the clamp.
