The ISCAR 6405192 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Belonging to the Min-Cut series, this insert carries the MIGR8120005 form factor and is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The IC908 grade is engineered for a broad range of workpiece materials, making it suitable across general-purpose turning applications. Key dimensional specs include a 1.2 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.5 mm, making this insert well suited for fine, shallow groove work where dimensional accuracy is critical.
This insert is intended for use in light-duty grooving applications where tight tolerances and minimal material removal per pass are required. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible deployment on standard toolholders without left or right directional bias. It is commonly installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments machining steel, stainless, cast iron, nonferrous alloys, and superalloys. The insert is a single-end design and is held in the toolholder via clamp or screw retention method.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Min-Cut series grooving toolholders that accept the MIGR insert style in size 8120005. Compatible primary workpiece material codes include H, K, M, P, and S per ISO classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Tighten the clamp or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified retention method without over-torquing the retention hardware. Verify insert orientation and cutting edge engagement before resuming machine operation.
