The ISCAR 6405091 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIP315015P designation with IC830 grade carbide and a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating, this double-ended insert delivers a 3.15 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 13 mm. The IC830 grade is formulated for high-performance cutting in demanding materials. The positive rake geometry and P chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments, this insert fits standard Cut-Grip toolholders with a clamp-style holding method.
This insert is suited for grooving, recessing, and parting applications in both light and heavy production turning operations. Its primary workpiece material designation covers superalloys and titanium, making it appropriate for aerospace, medical, and high-temperature alloy machining. The double-ended design extends usable insert life by providing two cutting edges per insert. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand turning setups. It is appropriate for both external and internal grooving where Cut-Grip system toolholders are used.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIP-style inserts with a 315015 insert size code. Verify toolholder pocket specification before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, energy-isolated state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp securely without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm cutting parameters against ISCAR published feeds and speeds for the IC830 grade before resuming operation.
