The ISCAR 6405028 is a solid carbide double-ended grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the GIP100000X geometry and is manufactured to IC830 grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating finish. It delivers a cutting width of 1.04 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 2.00 mm, making it suited for narrow, tight-tolerance groove profiles. The positive rake angle of 7 degrees and the X chip breaker geometry work together to control chip formation and reduce cutting forces during interrupted or continuous grooving passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert as part of scheduled tooling maintenance.
This insert is intended for grooving and parting applications where close tolerances and surface finish are critical. Its primary workpiece material ratings cover superalloys, titanium, and general steel (ISO material codes M, P, and S), which makes it a practical choice for aerospace, medical, and precision machining environments. The left-hand orientation suits specific toolholder configurations that require a left-hand cutting direction. The double-ended design allows the insert to be flipped and reindexed, extending usable tool life before disposal. Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified for the Cut-Grip toolholder to seat the insert securely before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert size. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge stability.
