The ISCAR 6404299 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC5010 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Al2O3 coating, giving it strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features a 4.00 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 13.00 mm, and a positive rake angle of 7 degrees. The double-ended design extends tool life by providing two usable cutting edges per insert. This insert is installed and managed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for grooving, undercutting, and parting operations where consistent groove width and depth control are required. Its primary workpiece material designation is cast iron (ISO material code K), making it appropriate for high-volume ferrous machining applications. The GIP400E040P insert style is part of the Cut-Grip system, which uses a clamp-style holding method compatible with corresponding Cut-Grip toolholders. It is applicable across operations falling within the maximum depth of cut range of 10.00 mm to 20.00 mm.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series clamp-style toolholders that accept the GIP 400E040 insert seat. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
This insert is seated and clamped by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate Cut-Grip toolholder and clamping screw. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw and inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the insert depth-of-cut range specified for the toolholder in use.
