The ISCAR 6404244 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Carrying the IC808 manufacturer grade, this double-ended GIP-style insert features a 2.39 mm (0.094 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.70 mm (0.185 inch). The PVD-applied tri-layer coating — AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN — delivers heat resistance and edge durability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The self-grip holding method and positive 7-degree rake angle promote secure seating and efficient chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC programmers working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving and cut-off applications in both light and moderate production turning. Its universal material grade compatibility (ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S) makes it applicable across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature superalloys. The P chip breaker geometry assists in chip control during interrupted cuts and continuous groove passes. The Cut-Grip series self-grip design simplifies insert indexing and reduces changeover time on compatible toolholders. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIP-style inserts with size code 239015. Compatible across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards; manufacturer catalog reference is GIP 2.39-0.15.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully indexed and locked before removing or seating the insert. Use the appropriate insert installation tool or driver recommended for self-grip Cut-Grip holders to avoid edge chipping — do not seat the insert by hand-striking. Verify insert seating and overhang dimension against the programmed depth of cut before resuming operation.
