The ISCAR 6404143 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated grade IC808 with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear performance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The left-hand configuration features a 1.57 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.80 mm, making it well-suited for shallow to medium-depth grooving passes. A positive rake angle of 8 degrees and chip breaker geometry X support chip control in continuous and interrupted cuts. Installation and replacement are handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in grooving applications across universal workpiece materials, with ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, steel, and superalloys. It is used in the ISCAR Cut-Grip toolholding system, which uses a clamp-style insert holding method. Typical applications include external grooving, face grooving, and parting on turned components in both production and maintenance machining environments. The double-ended design provides two usable cutting edges per insert, extending service life per unit.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the GIPI insert style and size code 157079. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S. Confirm toolholder compatibility using the ISCAR Cut-Grip system specifications before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert correctly — do not overtighten by hand estimate. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation matches the left-hand designation of the toolholder before resuming operation.
