The ISCAR 6404139 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the GIP11901X insert style in grade IC808, this double-ended insert delivers a 1.19 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.00 mm. The PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection across a broad range of workpiece materials. The positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces, making it well suited for finishing passes where surface quality and insert life are both priorities. Machinists and CNC operators installing this insert will appreciate the X chip breaker geometry, which promotes controlled chip formation during grooving cycles.
This insert is intended for use in the Cut-Grip series tooling system. It is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, which correspond to hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys respectively. The GIP style and 11901 size code identify the seat geometry required in the matching Cut-Grip holder. Typical applications include grooving, parting, and shallow profiling on production turning operations in job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments.

Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the Cut-Grip holder to seat the insert firmly without over-stressing the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for debris or damage before seating a new insert. When indexing to the second cutting edge, verify that the seating surface is clean and that the insert is fully engaged before resuming operation.
