The ISCAR 6404119 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, carrying the GIPI 3.00E-0.40 geometry designation and IC808 manufacturer grade. It delivers a 3.00 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 15.50 mm, making it suited to external grooving, parting, and related turning operations on CNC lathes. The insert features a PVD-applied multilayer coating — AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN — over a submicron carbide substrate. The IC808 grade is engineered for toughness and thermal resistance in interrupted and continuous cut conditions. Installation is handled by a clamp-style insert holding method, and the double-ended geometry extends usable tool life.
This insert is designed for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S — meaning it transitions across hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Typical use is in production turning environments on CNC lathes where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are required. The P chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle of 8 degrees help manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces across these material groups. It is a standard fit for shops running mixed-material schedules.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting the GIPI insert style with a size 3 insert seat.
Grooving inserts of this type are installed and changed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the clamp and insert seat are clean and free of chips before securing the insert, as debris under the seat affects depth-of-cut accuracy and can cause premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidelines and verify insert seating visually before resuming operation.
