The ISCAR 6403376 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving, parting, and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GEPI318159 insert style designation and is manufactured in IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. Cutting width is 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches), with a maximum depth of cut of 5 mm (0.1969 inches). The double-ended geometry and positive rake angle of 8 degrees allow productive cutting in both directions, and the full corner radius of 1.59 mm (0.0626 inches) supports smooth finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert into compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece materials spanning ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S — covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is commonly used in production turning shops for groove profiling and cutoff work on both ferrous and non-ferrous components. The clamp-held, double-ended design extends service life by offering two cutting edges per insert. The IC908 submicron carbide grade with TiAlN finish performs reliably across a broad range of cutting speeds and chip loads typical in general-purpose turning.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GEPI-style inserts with a 318159 size code. Compatible with workpiece materials across ISO groups H, K, M, P, and S as designated in the product specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not exceed that value or overtorque by feel. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure accurate positioning and tool life.
