The ISCAR 6403374 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by insert style GEPI318020 and manufactured to grade IC908, this double-ended insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for elevated heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The cutting width is 3.18 mm (0.125 inches) with a maximum depth of cut reaching 8.99 mm (0.354 inches). A positive rake angle of 8 degrees and self-grip holding method contribute to stable seating and reliable chip control during grooving passes. Toolroom technicians and CNC machinists install this insert as a direct replacement in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
The GEPI318020 IC908 insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. This range spans hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. It is suited to production turning environments where a single insert grade must handle varied material runs. The double-end configuration allows the operator to index to a fresh cutting edge, reducing insert cost per part. Typical applications include part-off grooves, snap ring grooves, and undercut profiles on turned components.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GEPI insert style. Compatible across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as indicated by the primary workpiece material code. Verify toolholder pocket style and insert size code 318020 before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout state per applicable shop safety procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut range of 5.00 mm to 10.00 mm for this insert size. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, excessive flank wear, or surface finish degradation on the workpiece.
