The ISCAR 6403274 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the manufacturer grade IC9054 with a CVD-applied Al2O3 coating, this insert delivers consistent performance in demanding cutting environments. The insert provides a 0.125 inch (3.18 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.138 inch (3.51 mm). A self-grip holding method locks the insert securely into compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware. The P chip breaker geometry and 7-degree positive rake angle promote controlled chip evacuation. This is a single-end insert intended for professional machining applications.
This insert is suited for grooving, parting, and profiling operations on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The IC9054 grade with Al2O3 CVD coating is matched to ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and P (steel), making it a practical choice where these materials are routinely machined. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of Cut-Grip toolholder setups. Machinists working in aerospace, medical, and general industrial turning will find this insert applicable to moderate-to-high cutting demands where chip control and edge consistency are priorities.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIP 318020 insert size. Compatible with setups targeting ISO material groups M (stainless steel) and P (steel). Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully into the Cut-Grip toolholder pocket until the self-grip mechanism engages — do not force or strike the insert. Inspect the pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for coolant direction and cutting parameter recommendations.
