The ISCAR 6403209 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for external grooving, parting, and profile turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This double-ended insert carries the GEPI300150 geometry with an IC908 submicron carbide grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The 3.00 mm cutting width handles grooves up to 5.00 mm deep, while the 1.50 mm corner radius and 8-degree positive rake angle reduce cutting forces and promote smooth chip flow. The self-grip holding method locks the insert securely in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware. Installed by CNC machinists and turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless), K (cast iron), H (hardened materials), and S (heat-resistant superalloys). The neutral hand orientation suits straight grooving applications on both OD and face grooving setups. The double-ended design provides two usable cutting edges per insert, extending tool life between change-outs. Typical applications include snap-ring grooves, O-ring grooves, parting-off, and profile grooving on medium to high-volume turned components.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GEPI insert style and 300150 insert size. ISO code GEPI 3.00-1.50 identifies compatible holder seats. Verify holder pocket dimensions against the 10.01 mm overall insert length and 2.90 mm cutting height before installation.
Insert seating and removal should be performed with the machine in a full stop condition and all power isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. The self-grip design requires no clamping screw, but the holder pocket must be free of chips and debris before seating to ensure full contact. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or deformation at each insert change. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid edge chipping prior to installation.
