The ISCAR 6403123 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This double-ended insert features the GIP157079 geometry with a 1.57 mm (0.062 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.69 mm (0.106 inch). The IC908 grade substrate uses a submicron carbide composition with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and self-grip insert holding method provide secure seating and predictable chip control. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install and index this insert as part of the Cut-Grip tooling system.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S - cast iron, nonferrous, stainless, steel, and superalloys. It is suited for both light finishing and moderate roughing grooving passes in production and job-shop turning environments. The double-ended configuration allows the insert to be indexed to a second cutting edge, extending usable tool life per insert. Applications include external grooving, undercut operations, and shallow parting on bar stock and turned components.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIP insert style in size code 157079. ISO catalog designation is GIP 1.57-0.79. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S as stated by the manufacturer.
Installation and indexing of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping mechanism - do not overtighten. Verify insert seating and runout before initiating a cut, and confirm toolholder and insert compatibility by ISO catalog designation prior to mounting.
