The ISCAR 6402741 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the XNUW130505 style, manufactured to IC54 grade and offered uncoated for applications where coating would reduce edge sharpness or dimensional precision. The insert features a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 7 degrees, producing a clean shearing action on the workpiece. With a cutting width of 0.5118 inches (13.00 mm) and a cutting height of 0.2106 inches (5.35 mm), this insert is suited to consistent, repeatable groove profiling. It mounts via screw-holding method within ISCAR's V-Lock tooling system, providing rigid clamping and accurate indexing for turning and grooving operations.
This insert is designed for single-end use in CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with compatible V-Lock grooving tool holders. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and steel, making it applicable to general machining and precision component manufacturing in industrial, aerospace, and job-shop environments. Machinists and CNC operators handling these materials will find the IC54 uncoated grade well-suited to applications requiring a sharp, consistent cutting edge without the thermal barrier of a coating. The 60-degree included angle adds versatility for angled groove profiles.
Designed for use with ISCAR V-Lock series grooving tool holders that accept the XNUW insert style with a screw-clamp holding method. Specific holder compatibility should be confirmed against ISCAR V-Lock tooling documentation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench per the tool holder manufacturer's clamping specifications — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture solid carbide inserts. Confirm insert seating and runout before resuming cuts.
