The ISCAR 6402638 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the manufacturer style designation GIQR110201 and grade IC528. It is designed for single-end external grooving operations on CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The insert delivers a 2.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.30 mm, making it well suited to narrow groove profiles where dimensional accuracy is critical. A PVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating combination improves wear resistance and edge integrity when cutting difficult materials. Right-hand orientation is fixed. This insert is installed and changed out by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert belongs to the ISCAR ChamGroove series, which targets precision grooving, parting, and turn-grooving applications. Its primary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes M, P, and S. These are demanding cutting conditions common in aerospace, medical device, and energy sector machining. The GIQR insert style seats into compatible ChamGroove toolholders designed for that geometry. The overall insert length is 10.68 mm (0.4205 inches), and the corner radius is 0.10 mm (0.0039 inches), providing a near-sharp edge transition appropriate for tight-tolerance groove floors.
Designed for use in compatible ISCAR ChamGroove series toolholders accepting the GIQR insert style with size code 11200010. Refer to ISCAR toolholder documentation to confirm pocket geometry match before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout state. Use the torque driver or clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert correctly — do not over-tighten by hand using non-specified tools. Verify insert seating visually and with a dial indicator when groove width tolerances are tight. Observe all shop-floor PPE requirements when handling carbide inserts due to sharp edges.
