The ISCAR 6402477 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the ISCAR grade designation IC528 and the manufacturer catalog number GIQR 8-1.20-0.05. It belongs to the ChamGroove series and is engineered for single-end grooving operations on superalloys and titanium. The insert features a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN multilayer coating that improves edge wear resistance under the elevated cutting temperatures associated with these difficult materials. Cutting width is 1.2 mm (0.0472 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 1.5 mm. The corner radius measures 0.05 mm (0.0020 inches). Overall insert length is 7.78 mm (0.3063 inches).
This insert is intended for use in compatible ChamGroove series right-hand toolholders on CNC turning centers, Swiss-type lathes, and multi-spindle machines where precision grooving of superalloy and titanium components is required. Typical applications include aerospace and medical part production where tight groove tolerances and controlled surface finish are critical. The IC528 grade is specifically positioned for ISO material groups M, P, and S, covering stainless steels, steel, and superalloys including titanium alloys.
Designed for use in ISCAR ChamGroove series right-hand grooving toolholders that accept the GIQR insert style with size code 8120005. Suited for ISO material groups M, P, and S, covering steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per applicable machine guarding procedures. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or poor groove geometry. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw. Do not exceed the 1.5 mm maximum depth of cut rating for this insert style.
