The ISCAR 6402292 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for single-ended grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC354 grade with a PVD-applied TiN and TiCN coating stack, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability when machining stainless steel and carbon steel. The cutting width measures 0.087 inches (2.21 mm), the overall insert length is 0.602 inches (15.29 mm), and a corner radius of 0.007 inches (0.17 mm) is ground into the cutting edge. A J-style chipbreaker geometry controls chip flow during continuous grooving cuts.
This insert is suited for precision grooving and parting applications in job shops, production turning cells, and contract machining environments. The 8-degree right-hand lead angle and 7-degree relief angle are optimized for stainless steel and general steel workpieces classified under ISO material codes M and P. The self-grip holding method seats the insert securely in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders without additional clamping hardware, making it a practical choice for high-cycle production work where quick insert indexing matters.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIM insert style. Suitable for grooving and parting of stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces per ISO material designations M and P. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and insert size code compatibility before ordering.
Insert seating and removal should be performed with the machine in a full stop and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate ISCAR insert key or seating tool specified for Cut-Grip bodies to avoid edge damage during installation. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications where a clamping screw is used in the body design.
