The ISCAR 6402031 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GIM3JS15J designation with an IC328 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiCN coating that improves wear resistance and tool life. The insert features a 0.1181 inch (3.00 mm) cutting width, a positive rake angle of 7 degrees, and a lead angle of 15 degrees. The J chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation. Right-hand orientation and a single-end configuration make it a direct drop-in for compatible Cut-Grip toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace and precision machining shops are the primary installers.
This insert is engineered for cutting superalloys and titanium, materials classified under ISO workpiece material codes M, P, and S. Those are demanding materials that require a coating and substrate combination capable of handling high cutting temperatures and abrasive wear. The Cut-Grip series targets external and internal grooving, face grooving, and parting applications in both production and job-shop environments. The multi-use designation means the insert can be repositioned or applied across a range of compatible holders within the Cut-Grip system without requiring a dedicated single-purpose tool.

Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per standard LOTO procedures. Use the correct ISCAR clamping key or torx driver specified for the toolholder; never force the insert into the pocket. Verify insert orientation (right-hand) matches the toolholder before engaging the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full contact and repeatable tool height.
