The ISCAR 6401906 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the GIMY insert style in the Cut-Grip series, this insert carries the IC20 uncoated carbide grade and features a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for a wide range of turning setups. The cutting width is 0.25 inches (6.35 mm), the maximum depth of cut reaches 0.122 inches (3.10 mm), and the full-radius corner geometry measures 0.1252 inches (3.18 mm). A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and the FY chip breaker geometry promote controlled chip flow and reduced cutting forces during grooving passes.
This insert is intended for use in professional machining environments where consistent groove geometry and tight tolerances are required. The IC20 uncoated grade is suited to universal workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S, which span hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It is held in place by a clamp-style insert holding method and is compatible with Cut-Grip series toolholders designed for the 635318 insert size. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production turning facilities, and aerospace or general manufacturing environments are the primary installers and users.
Designed for use with Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting the GIMY insert style in size 635318. Compatible with workpiece materials classified under ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S per ISO 13399.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Secure the insert using the clamp-style holding mechanism specified for the Cut-Grip series toolholder to ensure proper seating and rigidity. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before installation to avoid seating errors that can affect groove geometry.
