The ISCAR 6401820 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIF800040F geometry in the IC20 uncoated grade. Designed for the Cut-Grip system, it delivers a 8 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 27 mm, making it suitable for medium to deep grooving operations. The double-end configuration extends usable tool life before replacement is needed. With a positive rake angle of 7 degrees and an F chip breaker, the insert promotes controlled chip evacuation across a broad range of workpiece materials. Lathe operators and CNC turning specialists are the primary users of this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external and internal grooving, parting, and turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. The IC20 uncoated grade covers universal primary workpiece material groups including ISO material codes H, K, M, N, and S, encompassing cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. The neutral hand orientation accommodates standard Cut-Grip toolholders without left- or right-hand restrictions. Typical applications include grooving grooves for snap rings, O-rings, and thread reliefs on turned components.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip system toolholders that accept the GIF insert style. Refer to the ISCAR Cut-Grip catalog to confirm holder compatibility with the GIF 8.00-0.40 insert designation before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the torque wrench or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten by hand or with improvised tools. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
