The ISCAR 6401360 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GIPI40020UR designation with IC20 manufacturer grade. Designed for the Cut-Grip series tooling system, this double-ended insert uses a clamp-style holding method and delivers consistent performance in external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The cutting width measures 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm) with a corner radius of 0.0787 inches (2.00 mm) and an overall length of 0.6181 inches (15.70 mm). The UR chip breaker geometry and positive 8-degree rake angle support efficient chip evacuation across a wide range of workpiece materials. The uncoated IC20 grade solid carbide construction is suited for precision grooving where tight dimensional tolerances are required. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material application, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S. It is appropriate for both light and general-purpose grooving operations in job shop and production turning environments. The double-ended design allows the insert to be indexed to a second cutting edge, extending usable tool life per insert. The Cut-Grip series is a clamped grooving system commonly found on both gang-tool and turret-style turning setups. Right-hand cutting orientation should be confirmed against the toolholder configuration before installation.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamped grooving toolholders that accept the GIPI insert style in size code 40020. Confirm right-hand orientation and insert pocket dimensions against the toolholder specification before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and all stored energy discharged before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamping screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification and ensure the insert seats flush in the pocket without rocking. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to prevent premature edge failure.
