The ISCAR 6400572 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC20 uncoated carbide grade, this double-ended, neutral-hand insert from the Cut-Grip series delivers a 2.39 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.70 mm. The positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces and helps maintain edge stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. Machinists and toolroom operators working with clamp-style toolholders will find this insert compatible with standard Cut-Grip clamping systems. The full-radius geometry with a 1.20 mm corner radius minimizes stress concentrations at groove roots.
The ISCAR 6400572 is suited for universal grooving applications across a broad material spectrum, including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, and S. It is commonly used in production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are critical. The double-ended configuration provides two usable cutting edges per insert, which helps extend the value of each piece. Typical applications include grooving, parting, and profile turning on both small and medium-sized workpieces held in CNC turning centers or manual lathes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the GIP239120 insert size. Compatible with toolholders designed for insert size code 239120 within the Cut-Grip system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility safety procedures. Use the appropriate ISCAR clamping screw and key to seat the insert fully before tightening; do not force the insert into the pocket with impact tools. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure and verify insert seating before resuming cutting operations.
