The ISCAR 6096788 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Do-Grip series, designed for demanding parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the DGN 2200JS geometry with an IC328 grade, the insert features a 2.2 mm cutting width (0.0866 inches) and a JS chipbreaker configuration optimized for chip control. The PVD coating process delivers a hard, wear-resistant surface layer suited for cutting superalloys and a range of steel and specialty materials. The neutral lead angle and 7-degree relief angle support consistent, stable engagement at the cutting edge. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Do-Grip toolholders for precision grooving and parting tasks.
This insert is rated primarily for superalloy workpiece materials, with material grade codes covering C2, C3, C5, and C6 classifications. It is well-suited for grooving and parting applications in aerospace, oil and gas, and precision manufacturing environments where tight tolerances and heat-resistant alloys are common. The double-ended design allows two usable cutting edges per insert, extending tool life. Maximum depth of cut is 18.00 mm (0.7090 inches), making it appropriate for moderate-depth grooving passes.
Designed for use in ISCAR Do-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept DGN-style inserts with a 2200 size code. Verify holder compatibility against the DGN 2200 insert specification before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and all spindle motion confirmed at rest. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the recommended engagement — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide body. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating the insert. Verify cutting edge orientation and insert seating before resuming machine operation.
