The ISCAR 6004961 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Tang-Grip series, designed for parting and slitting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied multi-layer coating of TiAlN, AlTiN, and TiN for heat resistance and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 4.00 mm cutting width, a neutral lead angle, a 0.25 mm corner radius, and a 7-degree relief angle. The fine-grain carbide substrate at manufacturer grade IC808 provides toughness and edge stability under interrupted cuts and varying chip loads. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert is suited for cutoff, parting, and slitting applications in both light and medium-duty turning setups. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand Tang-Grip toolholders. The IC808 grade and universal primary workpiece material rating cover steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, making it a practical stock item for shops running mixed-material production. The chipbreaker designation is C, optimized for controlled chip formation during narrow grooving passes.
Designed for use with Tang-Grip series toolholders that accept TAG-style inserts with a size code 4. The neutral hand orientation fits standard right-hand and left-hand Tang-Grip holders. Confirm toolholder seat dimensions and insert pocket size code before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stopped and locked-out state. Use the recommended ISCAR Tang-Grip torque key or wrench to seat the insert securely in the pocket without over-tightening the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, chips, or debris before seating a new insert. Never index or replace inserts while the spindle is in motion.
