The ISCAR 6003578 is a single-end carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Tang-Grip series, designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TAGN3J designation, indicating a neutral lead angle, J chipbreaker geometry, and a 3 insert size code. The substrate is IC808 grade carbide with a PVD coating, targeting a broad range of workpiece materials. Cutting width is 3.05 mm (0.1180 inches), the corner radius is 0.20 mm (0.0079 inches), and the relief angle is 7 degrees. This insert is clamped into compatible Tang-Grip toolholders and is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 6003578 is suited for grooving and parting applications across universal workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. This makes it applicable to a wide range of metals including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials. Typical install scenarios include OD grooving, parting-off, and narrow-slot operations on manual or CNC turning equipment. The neutral hand designation allows use without directional restriction in standard Tang-Grip clamping systems.
Designed for use with Tang-Grip series clamping toolholders that accept TAGN3J style inserts. ISO material group compatibility covers H, K, M, P, and S workpiece materials per the supplier specification. This insert is a single-end type and is not reversible.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Tang-Grip clamping key or wrench to secure the insert fully in the pocket - do not overtighten by improvised means. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure.
