The ISCAR 6003220 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the PENTA series, designed for external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the PENTA 24N104J000 insert style, it features a 1.04 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.00 mm. The insert carries the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and edge durability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight-in grooving without lateral bias. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this tooling.
This insert is used in precision grooving applications across general machining, aerospace, and production turning environments. The IC908 grade with TiAlN finish is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, hardened materials, and high-temperature alloys. The J chip breaker geometry governs chip control and is suited for the narrow cutting widths typical of this insert. It is appropriate for both light-duty finishing grooves and moderate-depth slotting passes within its rated depth range.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling insert for PENTA series grooving toolholders that accept the 24N104J000 insert size. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S workpiece materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be brought to a full stop and all energy sources locked out before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate ISCAR PENTA toolholder clamp and torx key to secure the insert to the manufacturer-recommended seating torque for the holder. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure correct seating and repeatable runout.
